CNC Probing capabilities for DATRON high speed CNC machining centers are optional but integrated into the machine at the time of manufacture

Precision Drilling - High Speed CNC Micro Drilling in Steel, Plastics, Aluminum

CNC Probing:
Datron’s optional, but integrated CNC probing recognizes irregular work-piece topography and compensates for it dynamically. It does this by taking measurements along the surface of a blank and feeding that data into the machining controller. The controller automatically adjusts for uneven surfaces or work piece position. Through this process, job setup times are reduced and piece/part rejection is minimized. a 60,000 RPM spindle that handles micro drills as small as .004” (0.1mm) with precision and repeatability in X,Y and Z. Our sheer speed combined with a micro-spray alcohol coolant system produces micro holes with smooth walls, well defined edges and virtually void of dross or recast.

CNC Probing Benefits:
Precice depth machining by compensating material and clamping tolerances
Electronically maping & measuring of surfaces
Perfect engraving without lenghty set up times
Accurate measurement of workpieces in X, Y, and Z direction
Less rejects
Compensation for material variances
Higher Quality machining results
CNC Probing allows for scanning of curved surfaces and facilitates even depth milling and engraving
Datron high speed CNC milling machines offer an integrated CNC Probe as an option
CNC Probing with the XYZ Extension
With the addition of the 3D Extension, the Z-Correction Probe locates parts and material irregularities in the X, Y, and Z co-ordinates, finds centers of holes and bosses, pre-measures blanks before the machining starts, compensates for material variations, feeds data into ISO 9000 information chain for quality control, and even allows for the reverse engineering of many parts.
CNC Probe integrated with Datron high speed CNC machining centers
Our precision CNC probing allows the user to map the surface of the blank (even contoured or rounded surfaces) before machining. This data is fed into the milling program to compensate for irregularities or to ensure even milling or engraving depths even on contoured surfaces.
CNC Probing options for DATRON high speed CNC Machining centers incluses our own DATRON Probe (red) or the Renishaw TP20 Probe (blue)
The Datron CNC Probing Solution performs edge finding for quick set-ups and tolerance verification. For part varification our CNC probe performs edge finding enabling quick job set up and part change over
The omni-axis Renishaw TP20 probe is ideal for complex part measurement such as engraving a logo onto a rounded surface. Ordinarily, 3D programming would be necessary to accommodate surface depth changes and ensure an even depth engraving. With the TP20, the surface is scanned and irregularities or surface changes are automatically managed in the machining data without 3-D programming. The TP20 features a 6-way, kinematic, touch-trigger probe system to significantly improve cycle times.
Our pneumatic probe is integrated onto DATRON high speed CNC milling machines next to the machining spindle and extends downward to perform material scanning and then retracts out of the way during machining DATRON CNC probing can locate the center of holes and bosses to guarantee position and minimize part rejection
Even on curved surfaces like this bent front panel, the DATRON CNC probe feeds that data into the machining program so that milling and engraving can be performed to spec despite material variance Extending and retracting pneumatically, the DATRON CNC probe is fully integrated physically and within the software controller to deliver increased accuracy and machining quality

Logically, the smaller the part is, the higher the need for accuracy is – because physically there’s less room for error. Datron offers a variety of integrated probing options that promote accuracy and quality control and even provide manufacturers with a product development tool by enabling reverse engineering.
